Lift the handle upwards before turning the key. If it throws several bolts up and down the frame, it is a multipoint — which is the easy case, and almost certainly what you have if the door is uPVC or composite.
Often better than a key. A card or fob needs no code remembered and no small key turned in a stiff lock — you tap it and the door opens. You can also let someone in remotely if they are stuck.
